Not so long time ago I hosted a LIVE session in my Facebook group with Oleksandra, one of my trainees. During the session, Oleksandra asked me a particularly interesting question, that I want to share with you today.
What do you do when there are a lot of things happening at and you have no idea how to manage it all together. Sometimes it feels like I am falling down the rabbit hole just like Alice did in Alice in the Wonderland.
So this question leads us to the topic of being present and staying grounded in the midst of a chaos. There are a lot of practices that we can use to be calmer and happier; today I’d like to share some of them.
1. Be like Cobb
The advice that I gave to Olexandra was based on the idea that I got from a career coach myself. It’s really easy to get lost in whatever is happening in your life right now. To keep yourself grounded, you can use is to think about a symbol or an object, like a physical one, that you can have with you all the time.
Every time you feel anxious or you don’t know how to get out of the situation that you are in, just look at this object or hold it in your hand. Just like in the movie Inception where the main character Cobb had his totem, you can use any symbol or physical object that you like to feel peaceful and calm.
2. Be grateful
If you worry about things that are not in your circle of influence then it’s easy to get lost. A gratitude journal is a thing that can help you with feeling abundant and enough. Simply remind yourself what are you grateful for every day and with the time you can see that there are enough reasons to live happily and find joy in the world as it is.
3. Go on the date with… yourself!
So often we try to get to know other people as soon as we can. Countless meetings, dates and events that we attend help us to find out more about the people we are interested in. Knowing your true self is just as important as knowing others. Many of us go through life on autopilot and we never consider all the things that happen around us, even though they help us to be the person that we are. Sit down, take a cup of tea or any other beverage of your preference and reflect for a while. Think about all the things that make you you.
Who are you really?
What do you need?
What fulfills you?
Why do you behave or act in certain ways?
If that happens, why do you attract negative thoughts into your life?
Those questions can help you to identify key issues that you can work on. By creating systems and positive habits you can lead yourself into a better future.
